We offer intensive, individualised, 1:1 therapy that targets underlying skills that are causing difficulty and impacting your child’s learning. We help your child grasp new skills that they may have difficulty learning in a busy classroom. We specialise in helping children with learning differences and Specific Learning Disorders such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia.
Unfortunately many of our students suffer from anxiety or low confidence due to many years of struggling with a learning difficulty/disability. At LAB Learning Clinic we assist your child in a one-on-one supportive environment. Sessions can be flexible to cater for the needs of the child and their individual interests, making learning fun and engaging.
All of our therapists are trained primary or high school teachers who have specialised training in Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSL) or Orton Gillingham training, which is supported by the Australian Dyslexia Association http://www.multisensoryeducation.net.au/what-is-msl
We work with individuals from 4 years of age to adult. We believe strongly in early intervention, so if your child is not reaching grade expectations, make an appointment for an assessment with us ASAP.
You will receive a comprehensive report detailing how your child is performing, and if you choose to enrol, your child will be appointed to see one of our qualified therapists on a weekly basis.
We follow a 10-week school term structure. Most students attend once per week; however, some students attend twice per week. Your child may need to attend during a school holiday period for an assessment or a makeup session. This will be organised directly with your therapist.
Our sessions run for 45 minutes. We also set home study tasks for your child to complete during the week to help them consolidate the skills they were taught during their lesson. Short sharp practice is our recommendation of 10-15 minutes, 3 to 4 times per week.
At LAB Learning Clinic we believe in flexibility. If you would like to stay for sessions, parents are welcome or feel free to pick up after the session. LAB Learning Clinic also provides parent information sessions regularly via ZOOM to assist you as a parent to understand LAB Learning Clinic sessions and home study. If your child’s session is held during school a schedule of activities will be provided for each session and placed in your child’s folder.
LAB Learning Clinic provides therapy sessions at school. If you would like sessions at school, please let LAB Learning Clinic know, and we will support you in gaining permission with the school. We will work with the classroom teacher to organise a suitable time to see your child.
LAB Learning Clinic loves to work along with schools to build a multidisciplinary approach to assist your child. LAB Learning Clinic therapists are happy to attend meetings at school and can recommend classroom accommodations and also various strategies such as Assistive technology that can be used in the classroom and at home.
We offer online sessions around Australia. These are conducted via Zoom in a safe and secure environment. An online lesson covers everything that your child would cover in a face to face session. See here for more information.
If your child is sick, please notify your therapist at least 24 hours beforehand (if possible). The session will be charged for that day, and your child will be offered a makeup session to be scheduled at a time that suits you and the therapist.
One (1) makeup session is offered per term. All other missed or cancelled sessions will be charged at the normal rate.
Your child will be reassessed after 2 full terms. The assessment will be conducted as an additional session conducted in one of the school holiday periods. You will receive a comprehensive report detailing the progress your child has made.
At LAB we provide a variety of supports. Costings are based on frequency of sessions and types of sessions. Please contact us here for more information.
LAB Learning Clinic sees many students that have a diagnosis and many students that don’t. At LAB, we focus on a child’s strengths and weaknesses. Once a comprehensive assessment is completed, individual therapy sessions are based on your child’s needs.
LAB Learning Clinic provides parent information evenings via Zoom, where you can learn more about how to support your child, see what your child covers in a session and how you can assist them at home.
Contact us to find out more.
You need to give three (3) weeks notice in writing.
At LAB we need to ensure consistency of service for all students. At LAB a majority of our therapists have a waiting list, as such therapists have availability to provide one-catch-up session per term per student.
Advanced notice of one week is required to reschedule sessions for school camps, holidays etc.
LAB is happy to provide one-catch-up session per term per student in the case of last minute cancellations or sickness. LAB is also able to provide our sessions via Zoom. So if you can’t make it into the clinic or school we can move the session to zoom.
